What is PDF Merge & Split?
PDF Merge (also called PDF join or PDF combine) is the process of combining multiple PDF documents into a single file. Whether you need to consolidate monthly reports, assemble a multi-part contract, or combine scanned pages into one document, merging PDFs is one of the most common document operations. Instead of emailing five separate attachments, you send one professional, organized PDF.
PDF Split (also called PDF extract or PDF divide) is the reverse operation — taking a single PDF and dividing it into smaller documents based on page ranges. Need just pages 1–3 from a 50-page report? Want to extract a single chapter from an ebook? Splitting lets you pull exactly the pages you need without altering the original document.

How to Merge PDFs
Switch to Merge mode using the tab toggle at the top of the tool.
Add your PDF filesby clicking “Add PDF Files” or dragging and dropping them onto the upload area. You can add as many files as you need, up to a total size of 100 MB.
Reorder the filesusing the up and down arrow buttons next to each file. The merge will combine files in the order shown — the first file’s pages come first, followed by the second, and so on.
Remove unwanted filesby clicking the × button on any file entry.
Click “Merge PDFs” to combine all files into a single document. A progress indicator shows which file is currently being processed.
Download the merged PDFby clicking the download button. The file will be saved as “merged.pdf”.
How to Split a PDF
Switch to Split mode using the tab toggle at the top of the tool.
Upload your PDF by clicking the upload area or dragging a file onto it. The maximum file size for splitting is 20 MB.
Enter page rangesin the input field. Use commas to separate ranges and hyphens for consecutive pages. Examples: “1-3” extracts pages 1 through 3; “1-3, 5, 7-10” creates three output files (pages 1–3, page 5, pages 7–10). The tool shows a live preview of how many pages are selected.
Click “Split PDF” to process. Each range produces a separate downloadable PDF file.
Download individual filesor use “Download All” to save every split result. Files are named with the original filename plus the page range, e.g. “report_pages_1-3.pdf”.
Page Range Syntax
The page range syntax uses 1-based page numbers (the first page is page 1, not page 0). You can specify individual pages and ranges separated by commas:
Single page: “5” — extracts just page 5
Page range: “1-3” — extracts pages 1, 2, and 3
Multiple ranges: “1-3, 5, 7-10” — extracts three groups of pages
In Split mode, each comma-separated group becomes its own output file. In the example “1-3, 5, 7-10”, you get three separate PDFs: one with pages 1–3, one with page 5, and one with pages 7–10. The tool validates your ranges in real-time and shows how many pages are selected before you commit to the operation.

When to Merge vs. Split PDFs
Merge PDFs when you need to combine related documents into one. Common scenarios include: assembling a project proposal from separate cover letter, budget, and timeline PDFs; combining monthly bank statements into a single quarterly file; consolidating scanned receipts for an expense report; joining multiple contract addenda with the main agreement; and creating a single portfolio PDF from individual work samples.
Split PDFs when you need only part of a larger document. Use cases include: extracting relevant pages from a long research paper; separating chapters from an ebook; pulling a specific section from a regulatory filing; splitting a multi-part form into individual submissions; and isolating specific pages from a scanned document batch. Splitting is also useful for reducing email attachment sizes — instead of sending a 50-page PDF, send just the 3 pages the recipient needs.
Both operations preserve the original content, layout, and formatting of your PDF pages. No text is re-rendered, no images are recompressed, and no metadata is lost.
